The Connecticut Business & Industry Association is the voice of business in Connecticut, with thousands of member companies championing change at the State Capitol, shaping debate about economic competitiveness, and fighting for a better future for all.

Innovative, cost-effective insurance and employee benefit solutions for CBIA member companies. Medical, life, disability, dental insurance—and more.

Fighting to make Connecticut a top state for business, jobs, and economic growth.

Interns at Otis Elevator spent one week away from the office this summer to volunteer in their communities.

More than 100 interns and some employees worked with nonprofit organizations and homeless shelters, packing lunches, cleaning parks, and sorting food.

“The volunteerism efforts of Otis interns across the United States exemplify the impact our colleagues have on communities where we live and work," Otis Elevator head of corporate social responsibility Matt Turner said.

Longterm, the company set a goal to achieve 500,000 colleague volunteer hours by 2030.

Connecticut interns also participated in the week of service.

Interns sorted more than 21,000 pound of food at Connecticut Foodshare.

In one day alone, the interns organized 11,428 pounds of food, breaking the Otis record for most food sorted by pounds in a day at Foodshare.

“Our job as volunteers was to sort through produce items and repackage them into containers where they would be shipped out to various locations across the state,” said Otis Elevator finance intern Andy Heyman.

“It certainly felt rewarding being part of something like this, giving back to the community and contributing to making the world a better place!”
